My TV IV

By | January 11, 2006

Wednesday is a new day in my TV schedule. I looked at it as Hump-Day but I have joined the masses and see Wednesday’s as another chapter in the book of Lost. It has been a long time since the last new episode but I welcomed tonight with open arms and was not disappointed. Since Toys ‘R Us and Zellers did not have the Nerf Maverick, my mid-week-weekend needed a boost and here it was.

There really isn’t much else to write except that Scrubs and Lost have kicked my face inside out this week, and I love it.

My Entertainment

By | January 10, 2006

The new Survivor starts on February 2nd and the premise for it sounds rather interesting. It’s amazing to think that this show has been on the air since I was in grade twelve, and is in it’s twelfth intallment. I continue to watch it out of habbit but still find enjoyment in it.

I was a big fan of Amazing Race, but their Family Edition really didn’t do it for me. They need to return in a big way for me to watch their program again. The Apprentice is another show that I may drop from my viewing rotation, now if George and Martha Stewart were put in a cage and Donald called the fight – that is something I would watch.

Because of this thread on SomethingAwful I will acquire two Nerf Maverick’s from Toys “R Us, Wal-Mart or the black market because the amount of fun to be had is insane.

Read the thread over and educate yourself on modding of Nerf guns as well as a drinking game – Russian Roulette style! At Dell we played with a Nerf gun, and had loads of fun (until managers got wise to our game) but the Nerf Maverick is fun stock but is better modded. A 23 year old male is excited to buy a Nerf gun – who needs TV if you have Nerf?

My Readings

By | January 9, 2006

I have a lot on my “to read” list but I only seem to read in the winter months. For Christmas I received a few books, as well as a few more for my birthday back in October. My “to read” list has grown significantly in the last while but I can remove one book from that list.

I just finished Diary and will be moving onto Invisible Monsters tomorrow evening.

Diary Invisible Monsters

I am pretty vanilla when it comes to my readings. I have stuck with John Grisham and Michael Crichton, but decided to try Chuck Palahniuk and have enjoyed the variety. His books are unpredictable and am usually in for a twisted and disturbing ride each time (having read Choke and Lullaby already).

The next author I am going to expose myself to is Kurt Vonnegut. On the sleeve of a Palahniuk book Vonnegut was referenced and thought I would stick with that same style of authors. I have Slaughterhouse-Five and Cat’s Cradle to start off with and will see where my affair with him goes.

My Photographic Memory

By | January 8, 2006

I don’t recall taking most of these pictures, infact I doubt they ever happened but they were on my camera so I guess it did happen during the evening (or rather morning). My picture taking ability quickly gets worse as the evening/morning go on, so excuse the problems the flash caused.

The pictures from that night are posted in completion, but decided to hide them from the main page because it took a few more seconds to load the page because the pictures are hosted on my server. Don’t worry, the good times and blurry memories will be available for all to see for many moons.

So, let’s begin reliving my Friday night/Saturday morning.

Boy's Night Boy's Night Boy's Night

This little yellow dragon become an important part of the evening. Think of him as the Travelocity gnome. And the two XBOX’s that helped us celebrate this evening.

Once the yellow dragon made a move for the alcohol and attacking each of us we took the matter into our own hands.

Banned for posting on the Internet (my site) while drunk! And the yellow dragon makes an epic return.

This time the dragon brought some friends, who are heading over to an Eskimo game.

Tomorrow Never Dies? Well if you stay up all night it sort of ties into the next one. And now the yellow dragon is our own Enemy at the Gate.

Have you ever forgotten that 3D glasses were made? I did and it rocked my socks.

In other non-partying news, I upgraded to WordPress 2.0 yesterday. I don’t think readers will notice any differences but the admin side of things got a design make over. I’m not sold on the upgrade, I’d like to see users have the ability to preview posts – or give them the WYSIWYG editor that I have now. Oh well, rock on!

My Rebuttal

By | January 7, 2006

I am not sure how a hangover feels when you haven’t gone to sleep, but I think it would be something like this. Around 10AM, already 28 hours into my I’m Still Awake and Partying marathon I took the opportunity to have a ninety minute sleep.

You debate if the short sleep will really help in the long term, and I’m not sure if it is good or bad – but I was glad I took it. Had I not jumped for it I probably would have still been intoxicated when I got up and rushed out to work. Or it could have been the aquarium loads of water I consumed that helped me reach a sober state. Regardless, in what will probably be a 39-40 hour stretch since my last sleep that little nap will have been useful.

My greatest, and coincidentally, most challenging part in my day was when I arrived at work and had to make coffee. There was a fresh tin of Tim Hortons grounds ready to be broken into. Unfortunately the metal lid was still on it and all I had was a primitive can opener. It took some time, but I conquered and will have plenty of caffeine to fuel the rest of my day.

As you can tell from the last twelve hours of posts/comments, Gord and I ripped it up for no other reason than to test the modded XBOX and because we could. I will see if I can get the pictures online tomorrow, and perhaps some of what was written will make sense to you and me as well.

Waiter! There is a hangover in my cranium, can you please return this and bring me a fresh one? Thank you.

My Foreign Policy

By | January 7, 2006

It is 5AM. I am beyond intoxicated and I must count to one hundred. Well, I have to work in seven hours and I doubt I will be in much of a state to operate at full capacity. What is the occasion you ask? Gord and I had an improptu Boys Night 2K6 while we modded my recently acquired XBOX.

We have finished a 26 of Canadian 83, and I have also been responsible for finishing off the rest of Rootbeer Shnopps. I have taken photographs of a yellow submarine dragon, which I wil

l post pictures of when I reach home base later.

When the climbers reached the top of K2 they said “Let’s mix Vodka and Coke” and that is where we are headed now. We called this a Yoda in High School and we will drink it well.

Ice ice baby!

Update: Gord almost died coming down the stairs with fresh ice to mix the Yoda with plenty of Force and staying on target. He goes the distance. All goats go to heaven, sheeps go to hell!

My Political Opinion

By | January 6, 2006

It’s really the lesser of two evils when it comes to politics. I wrote about my political feelings in Government Talk back in December so consider this a follow up.

I am confident in the party I’m voting for, but there are some policies they have that make me shake my head. And after a little more reading this idea of having one really incompetent policy is shared by other parties as well.

For example, the NDP wants to abolish the Senate and lower voting age from 18 to 16. At 18 I had no interest in politics so I doubt a 16 year old would be much better.

The Green Party wants to introduce ?women? only seats in parliament. Sure, these guys are kind of playing in their own sandbox anyway but women got the right to vote in 1918, so how is this still relevant?

Lastly we have the Bloc. Next to the Green Party this crew is looking out for Quebec’s own interest, and their out there policy is not so much surprising as it is stupid. They want to make Quebec its own country and expect to live in a happy utopia.

I would like a party to not have some of these crazy policies. Maybe all of those policies can be scooped up and given to the Rhinoceros Party as they make their epic return to politics.

My Return

By | January 4, 2006

I have survived my trip to Banff with only sore muscles and great memories. Aaron and I spent two days at Sunshine and thoroughly explored the hill.

We left at 6AM on Monday morning and got to the hill at 10:30AM. The vehichle lineup was insane, by the time we arrived they were already parking outside of the gate. On the way home the last car we saw parked was 2KM away from the Gondola station. Fortunately we found a spot closer in the parking lot, but was still a fair hike. The weather was beautiful with a view all through the mountains and the snow was soft and made for great skiing. The crowds were pretty big but it was a day that begged to be spent outdoors.

The next day we arrived at 8:30AM and got a much closer parking spot. After staying until 4PM the day before we were both pretty tired but were willing to give it all we had left. The day started out cloudy, and that’s the way it ended. It was still warm on the hill but the low light made it difficult to see the runs.

Of course this was the day we explored the moguls on the black diamonds so that made navigating a little tricky. We put in an honest day leaving at 3PM and then had dinner at Earl’s before watching the rest of the Canada World Junior game and Scrubs.

Today we got up early and headed to Johnston Canyon. We walked to the lower and upper falls, putting in a near 5KM hike. The journey to the Ink Pots would have doubled the distance but we didn’t think that it would be worth the effort so we got an early start on heading home.

The trip was 895KM’s but we didn’t do it on a single tank. I decided to put $10 in the Jetta at Red Deer to ensure we’d make it home. We could have come close to doing it in a single tank but I didn’t want to call AMA somewhere on HWY2 and waiting for their arrival as they brought extra fuel. I will take the Jetta to the bottom of the tank but will probably save that experience for when it’s a little warmer outside.

I took some pictures from today at the Canyon and have uploaded them to Flickr. You can access the album by clicking below or by going to the second image on the right under Jasper/Banff Trips. It was a great three days and look forward to going back to the mountains in the near future.

In other news, the modchip I ordered for my recently acquired XBOX has turned out to be a scam. The company I ordered from has taken a recent policy of accepting money but not shipping anything out. I have contacted my credit card company and will begin the process of clawing back my cash. Welcome back Internet!
